Under the general direction of the Office Chief for Technical Freight & Project Integration, a Supervising Transportation Planner, this position will serve an important role in helping the Department to base freight transportation decisions on a data- and performance-driven approach. This position serves as the technical expert with leading, coordinating, developing, and implementing the Department’s specialized freight data and performance measurement activities. This position is also responsible for leadership and coordination in the implementation efforts resulting from federal and state legislation and policies that involve national, state, and interregional freight data and performance measurement. This position is responsible for working on behalf of the Division of Transportation Planning with other Caltrans units to manage freight data, develop tools and applications harnessing freight data, execute freight performance analyses, and monitor and report on statewide freight performance.
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
