The Enterprise Digital Member Experiences (EDME) team is responsible for deepening customer engagement through our digital experiences on our mobile app, web, and push channels. The team’s mission is to increase digital engagement, customer satisfaction and revenue through a combination of compelling features and a superior user experience.
THE ROLE:
Over the last 3 years we have invested in and scaled design, growing in team size and adding new specialized disciplines. As a result, we are seeking an experienced Design Manager who is versed in orchestrating and optimizing our design processes, project delivery, planning, and reporting. It is the responsibility of the Design Manager to reinforce the team’s design processes, manage projects within and outside the team, meet deadlines, assign responsibilities, and monitor and summarize progress of projects. You will have the opportunity to partner with Design Director’s, Designer, UX Writers, Researchers, Product Leadership, and other functions required to enable Design Delivery across multiple domains. Additionally, you will be a member of the team supporting the strategy, design, and delivery of the Amex Mobile App, which is available on iOS and Android in 22 markets around the world and used by millions of customers each month.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Be a key product design partner. Support product design roadmap planning by clarifying project scopes, initiative prioritization, team capacity, timelines, and design deliverables. Communicate plans, priorities, and facilitate alignment across design, product, and engineering. Clarify key deliverables for each delivery cycle and ensure we are tracking larger product and design roadmaps.
- Report project + domain statuses regularly and consistently through the utilization of Airtable, Confluence, Jira, and other Productivity tools to keep all team members informed throughout the design project lifecycle. Mitigate and escalateproject, domain, and resourcing risk by providing detailed project tracking and regular updates via Slack, email, automated reports, in person meetings, and video calls.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with teams (mobile + web design managers, product managers, designers, UX writers, researchers, and engineers) to articulate the design process, design requirements, coordinate standups, design critiques, workshops, and implement process change management; tailoring your communication style based on your audience. Possess a diplomatic mindset to resolve issues, employ cross team design thinking, and gain consensus amongst various stakeholders.
WHAT MIGHT AN ORDINARY WEEK LOOK LIKE?
- Partner with Design Directors and fellow Design Managers to provide operational support across the Mobile domains.
- Partnerwith designers, UX writers, and researchers to create an effectiveproject planto meet the desired requirements.
- Structure, schedule, and facilitate project and domain check-ins and recommend changes or alterations as necessary to adhere to project requirements and deadlines.
- Partnerwith other design management and operations team members to improve design knowledge sharing, delivery processes, and team health.
- Facilitate and attend key ceremonies such as prioritization meetings, kickoffs, design critiques, project handoff presentations, and retrospectives.
- Have 1:1’s with your leader and hold coffee chats to unpack project pain design, UX writing, product, engineering, and research colleagues.
- Be a change agent. Be fluid and open - continuously open to change and evolving processes and tools.
- Empower the team, ensure each member is fully engaged and make a meaningful contribution to the work, the domains, and the team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 4+ years of digital project management experience and/or experience aligning teams of designers, researchers, or engineers to deliver projects on time and within scope.
- Strong design thinking and problem-solving mindset, with experience managing multiple projects involving cross-functional teams with scheduling and technological constraints.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and adaptable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated self-awareness and empathy for both user needs and business goals.
- Working knowledge of agile team methodology, prototyping process, and research methodologies is a plus.
Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
