Description

The Nautical Institute is an organisation dedicated to promoting professionalism and excellence in the maritime industry. We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Technical Adviser to join our team. As a Senior Technical Adviser, you will play a crucial role in providing expert representation and guidance in support of our members and the wider maritime community.



The role is based in our modern London office with some hybrid working and domestic and international travel. Regular attendance at the IMO and networking in London requires that applicants live, or relocate, within a reasonable commute of London. 



An attractive benefits package of 9% non-contributory pension after satisfactory completion of probation.



Requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Provide expert representation and guidance on nautical matters, in support of the members of The Nautical Institute and the wider maritime industry.
      • Conduct research and analysis on industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to nautical operations.
      • Produce written correspondence, reports and articles for internal and external publications.
      • Collaborate and communicate with industry stakeholders, government bodies, and regulatory agencies, such as the IMO, to influence policy development and promote safety at sea.
      • Contribute to the development and review of industry guidelines, standards, and publications.
      • Support the Institute's initiatives in promoting professional development and continuous learning within the maritime community.
      • Stay updated with advancements in technology and industry practices to provide up-to-date advice and recommendations.

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organisation and the overall objectives of the organisation.



REQUIREMENTS:

      • Educated to degree level and achieved a Master Mariner or Chief Officer CoC. 
      • Experience in shore-based ship management or Deck Officer training, demonstrating a strong understanding of vessel operations, navigation, and safety protocols.
      • In-depth knowledge of international maritime regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex nautical matters clearly and concisely, in formal and informal environments.
      • Ability to influence and work collaboratively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
      • Experience in delivering high-quality written correspondence, reports or training material.
      • Familiarity with and/or curiosity of emerging technologies and regulations, and their impact on nautical operations.
      • A curious and enquiring mind, with an interest in contributing to the achievement of excellence in the maritime industry.
      • Ability to work individually, at times remotely, as well as part of a team.
      • The long-term right to live and work in the UK.
