A skilled communicator who is adept at using social media and online tools to activate and grow a grassroots movement

About the Position

Namati equips people to understand, use, and shape the law to advance justice for their communities. In the US, Namati’s US Environmental Justice program partners with communities and organizers from across the MidAtlantic region (DC, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia) to take on grave, inter-connected challenges including environmental injustice, unemployment, and racial and economic inequity. We are assisting overlooked communities with envisioning the changes they want to see for where they live, identifying and pursuing available federal and other funding sources, and where relevant, tracking the implementation of the funding. We’ve also co-founded the MidAtlantic Justice Coalition (MAJC), which is building people power and forging a just society with good economic opportunities and a safe environment.

We are searching for a dynamic Digital Organizer to help us build and activate a broad grassroots base through strategic, online communications. We’re looking for someone who is tenacious and creative with a burning passion for working with communities to advance economic and environmental justice, and all human rights.

The position will be responsible for the following-

Track and report on content engagement and social media metrics.
  • Design digital and hard copy promotional materials for organizing and advocacy campaigns, including for specific events and activities.
  • Capture compelling video, photos, interviews, and stories to advance organizing and advocacy objectives; design content using these materials.

Manage secure digital storage and organization of consent forms.
  • Develop, implement, and report on paid web/social media/print advertising campaigns.
  • Create and conduct trainings for grassroots partners, for example around social media usage, and general nonprofit marketing or communications best practices for organizing and advocacy.
  • Collaborate with grassroots partners to develop and execute digital storytelling campaigns that inform and inspire key audiences to take action.
  • Draft and disseminate periodic advocacy e-mails and updates to our list of supporters. Support updating and maintenance of coalition mailing list data and segmentation.

Website updates, maintenance, and analytics:

  • Work with the Namati team to create engaging web pages.
  • Systematically update websites  to ensure the content is updated and accurate, fix broken links, identify unanchored pages, improve linkages between site content, and otherwise ensure the smooth functioning of the MAJC website.
  • Manage Search Engine Optimization.
  • Provide Namati’s global communications team with updated copy to ensure description of US EJ efforts on the Namati website are accurate

The position may also hold broader communications responsibilities for the US EJ Program (depending on the individual’s background and experience):
