Position Overview:
As a Technical Sales Representative, you will play a pivotal role in driving growth and innovation within our Composites distribution business. This position blends technical expertise with customer engagement, focusing on high-performance applications in aerospace, defense, ballistics, as well as more traditional sectors within the composites market. You will serve as a trusted advisor to customers, guiding them through specification approvals, material selection, and application development.
Your ability to understand and communicate complex technical requirements will be key to supporting customers and expanding our footprint in advanced composites markets. This role requires a strong foundation in advanced markets, materials science, and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a technical consultant and solutions provider, supporting customers through specification approvals, qualification processes, and product integration.
- Cultivate and grow relationships with engineering, procurement, and R&D teams at customer organizations.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities in aerospace, defense, ballistics, and other high-performance sectors.
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to deliver tailored composite solutions that meet stringent performance and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical presentations, product demonstrations, and application support to drive customer confidence and adoption.
- Monitor industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies to inform strategic sales initiatives.
- Maintain and grow sales revenue and gross profit margin within assigned territory.
- Prepare detailed action plans and schedules to target key accounts and strategic growth areas.
- Communicate effectively across internal departments to ensure alignment on pricing, inventory, product quality, and customer needs.
Expected Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in technical sales, engineering, or product development within the composites, aerospace, or defense industries.
- Strong understanding of advanced composite materials, including carbon fiber, aramid, thermosets, thermoplastics, and ballistic-grade reinforcements.
- Familiarity with specification and qualification processes (e.g., MIL-STD, ASTM, NADCAP, AS9100).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn internal systems and CRMs.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a customer-first mindset.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel up to 50%.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business or Engineering, or related technical field.
- Experience supporting aerospace OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, defense contractors, or ballistic protection programs.
- Working knowledge of SAP, Sales Cloud, or similar platforms.
- Experience with technical documentation, proposal development, and regulatory compliance.
Location & Travel:
- Primarily remote; candidates should be based between Richmond, VA and Washington, D.C.
- Travel within assigned territory up to 50%, including overnight travel as needed.
Compensation:
- The annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $100,000, plus quarterly sales incentive bonus. The actual pay will be determined based on factors such as location, experience, skills, and qualifications.
