SUNY Maritime College, located in Throggs Neck (Bronx), New York, is looking for hard-working, responsible, and motivated individuals to assist in fleet and facility maintenance in support of our summer program season, including Maritime Adventure Camp. The Waterfront Assistant will support other summer staff with aquatic activities such as: sailing, powerboating, marine environmental science, paddleboarding, kayaking, fishing, swimming, SCUBA diving and other waterfront activities and adventures.
Responsibilities
- Ensure a fun learning environment for program participants during on- and off-the-water activities by helping maintain the Waterfront as a safe and organized space
- Support waterfront operations including:
- Facilities maintenance (i.e. cleaning, painting)
- Facilities operation (i.e. maintaining inventory of equipment, safety, organization)
- Boat maintenance & repair (i.e. cleaning, fiberglass work, engine work)
- Sailing, powerboating, kayaking, SUP instruction
- Assist with the set-up, operation, supervision and instruction of activities, regattas, and other events, including "Boogie Down to the Sound"
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Experience working on boats and around the water, such as at a marina or yacht club
- Superior powerboat and/or sailing ability
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification or ability to achieve before summer
Preferred Qualifications:
- US POWERBOATING Safe Powerboat Handling Certification (Instructor level desired)
- USCG Launch Tender License or higher
- Waterfront Lifeguard and/or Water Safety Instructor Certification
- Experience in boat maintenance and repair (i.e. fiberglass, engine work)
Additional Information:
Classification: FLSA non-exempt position that is eligible for overtime monies.

Compensation
- $17.00 - $30.00 per hour, 40 hours weekly; lunch included
- Possible dorm room housing available

Tentative Schedule
- June 22 - June 26, 2026: on-site camp training & orientation
- June 29 - August 7, 2026: camp (three 2-week sessions, Monday - Friday)
- August 10 & 11, 2026: post-camp debrief & pack-up
- Will be required to work one Saturday, date TBD, at "Boogie Down to the Sound" event
