The Senior Project Staff Engineer provides leadership in the development of hardware designs which meet specified requirements. Performs or directs engineering tasks to assure proper form, fit and function. Manages engineer and designer teams to address specific tasks. Provides guidance and direction in development and maintenance budgets and schedules. Serves as technical expert advisor, providing the technical approach to resolving task challenges and/or problems. Assures design suitability for fabrication, mass property control, material suitability, interface definition. Develops and implements test plans and procedures. Provides direction and guidance to lower level engineers. Supports requirements definition, review and verification at the mission, instrument, subsystem and component level. Supports all types of reviews throughout program planning and execution.
Job Requirements:
- BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and fifteen (15) years of direct engineering experience in the aerospace industry with specific demonstrated technical expertise in relevant design and/or analytical areas such as structures, thermal, or electromechanical systems.
- Technical team leadership experience and project review experience is required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, be able to work in a team, and develop cooperative relationships with NASA and commercial partners
- Demonstrated experience with development of opto-mechanical, electro-optic and laser components and laser systems for high reliability space missions
- Demonstrated experience with testing of opto-mechanical, electro-optic and laser components and laser systems for high reliability space missions
- Demonstrated experience with testing of electro-optic and laser components and laser systems in a class 0 ESD environment
- All candidates must meet the 22 CFR 120.15 definition of U.S. Persons
Work environment and physical demands:
Periodic work requiring extended periods (2-4 hours) of walking and standing in lab, clean room and integration and test environments.
Periodic work in a clean room suit including head cover, face mask, gloves booties (full "bunny suit").
Periodic shift work working as part of a team to provide support during critical test phases.
