Alila Napa Valley is seeking a hands-on Chief Engineer to lead the day-to-day maintenance and operation of our boutique luxury property. This is a working leadership role for someone who enjoys being actively involved in repairs and troubleshooting while also guiding and supporting a team of engineers.
The Chief Engineer serves as the primary technical expert on property and is responsible for both hands-on execution and daily team leadership. This role owns preventative maintenance, emergency response, vendor coordination, and compliance, while setting expectations and priorities for the engineering team.
Salary Range: $70,304 - $95,000

Responsibilities:
• Perform and oversee hands-on maintenance and repairs throughout the property
• Lead, train, and support a team of engineers, setting daily priorities and expectations
• Troubleshoot HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, kitchen equipment, and life-safety systems
• Ensure preventative maintenance programs are completed consistently and accurately
• Respond to maintenance requests and on-call emergencies
• Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized services and repairs
• Monitor inventory, order parts and supplies, and manage maintenance-related expenses
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, building codes, and regulatory requirements
• Support fire/life safety inspections and corrective actions
• Maintain work order documentation and maintenance records
• Communicate maintenance needs, risks, and priorities to hotel leadership
Qualifications
Qualifications:
• 3-5+ years of hands-on engineering experience with prior team leadership responsibility
• Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, and general building systems
• Experience supervising or leading engineers or maintenance technicians
• Ability to balance hands-on work with team oversight and accountability
• Strong troubleshooting, time-management, and communication skills
• Experience working with vendors and service providers
• Knowledge of safety and regulatory requirements
• Technical certifications or trade education preferred
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the property for extended periods
• Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
• Ability to climb ladders and access rooftops, mechanical rooms, and confined spaces
• Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs
